Finding the Right Place to Stay

…and by the right place to stay, I mean an affordable accommodation.

FIRST TIP

Don’t compromise your safety and security for a cheap place to stay. Yes you may have saved money, but what happens if it’s stolen or worse, you’ll get mugged? Stories of travelers getting swindled, harassed, or mugged around the vicinity where they stay should serve as warnings. Go for the not-so-cheap hotel or hostel that has a reputable neighborhood. This goes especially if you’re traveling abroad where language-barrier would be an issue.

SECOND TIP

If it was a whirlwind trip and you still got some extra time, don’t settle for the first resort or hotel you’ve reached. Try to canvass for more places to stay around the area. That’s the time you can weigh your options. If it’s the beach, the beach-front resorts where there are lots of activities are usually the expensive ones. Try walking down the stretch or perhaps try those ones inside the island, perhaps walking distance from the beach.

THIRD TIP

If it can be helped, travel in a group. You can save primarily on fares and lodging – two of the major expenses incurred during traveling. Most hotels, hostels or resorts offer rooms for groups. Most of the time, per-head rate of bigger rooms is cheaper than those single or double rooms. This holds true for local and international travel. There are group travel packages in going to Europe, US, and other prominent international travel destinations.

FOURTH TIP

Most hotels have their own restaurant, but most likely the food would be expensive. Try staying in a hotel that comes with free breakfast if you plan to stay there overnight. The price might only be slightly above hotels that don’t offer one. Or perhaps you can choose a place where it’s near cheap restaurants or carinderia.

FIFTH TIP

The best practice so far that could actually save you loads of money is by planning your trip in advance. This is would be a requirement if you are going abroad – like Europe’s Rome, London, Barcelona, to name a few. By plotting when and where to go, you can then look for cheap places to stay. Do your research weeks ahead of your travel date. Try scouting for cheap travel tours or websites like what I’ve found that books Barcelona hotels at Venere.com. Big cities like Barcelona could offer a variety of hotels, hostels apartments, and what have you.

These tips just serve as guidelines. As long as you take care of your health while you travel, go out explore and have fun!

So what other traveling tips do you have in mind in finding the affordable and right place to stay?
